Congress in Borås

Borås is bubbling over. At fashion and textile congresses the world over, Borås is of good repute. And its reputation has been cemented for decades, if not centuries.

Borås is Sverige’s 13th city, with some 110 000 inhabitants. Another million and a half live within a radius of a hundred kilometers.

The strategic location, with equal proximity to each of the Scandinavian capitals, makes getting here quick and easy. Lying halfway between Göteborg and Borås, Landvetter Airport offers connections to no fewer than 90 destinations throughout the world, and is reached by airport bus in 25 minutes.

The vibe of the city proclaims that anything is possible. The locals not only envision opportunities, they know how to realize them. Perhaps this arises from the entrepreneurial spirit that has always characterized the city. In Borås, receiving visitors from far and wide is nothing unusual. It’s just the welcoming face of the robust culture of commerce upon which this city was once founded.

Local merits

Many visitors to Borås have never really been here. Not genuinely. A few hours simply does not suffice, and just driving through doesn’t even count.

You have to chat with the locals. Inhale the oxygenated air. Be on the spot when the cup is raised at Borås Arena. And should you ever converse with art aficionados about Borås, they will soon start to bubble enthusiastically over its fantastic endowment of gallery art, sculpture and street art.

There is a building boom. Cafés and restaurants are popping up all over, and have a look at the packed calendar of events: the International Sculpture Biennale, the Street Art Festival, the Summer Thursdays®, fashion shows…

People come from near and far to gather in our city, which has for decades acted as an international stage for textiles and commerce. Or, more precisely, centuries.

So in many aspects we are world-class. Here you’ll find the the Swedish partners in research and innovation RISE, Research Institutes of Sweden: a university college with an internationally renowned Faculty of Textiles, a Faculty of Librarianship, and a Center for Resource Recovery; and a unique entrepreneurship that is sometimes referred to as “peddler spirit”.

So welcome, friend. We genuinely mean it.

Green get-togethers

There is no mistaking the ecological commitment of Borås. As one of the first cities ever to sort waste, we are today a world-class actor on the stage of resource recovery. In the next few years, the municipality will be investing billions in a new Energy and Environment Center. In its recently issued vision for 2025, the highly set environmental goals have already started to make themselves felt in the local operations and businesses.  Borås has been designated one of the Sweden’s seven global municipalities

Lending optimal support to our organizers, many stakeholders in the city have produced what they call a Safety Pin. Here you can find everything from tips on making your meeting or event greener to guidelines for going the whole nine yards and earning an environmental diploma.

All environmentally certified, our lodging and meeting facilities boast the same commitment to an ecological mindset. And restaurant after restaurant is coming on board. These factors contribute to our being most often selected to host a string of environmental congresses, such as a UN conference on sustainable cities and later the IPLA Global Forum in 2013.
