Local merits

Over the years, Gothenburg has evolved into a multicultural cityscape enriched by an influx of people from all over the world. Here you will encounter the pulse of a metropolis alongside a genuine conviviality. Gothenburg has an active music scene, of which the Gothenburg Concert Hall and the Göteborg Opera are the most renowned, offering theater, musicals, pop concerts and operas.

Gothenburg leads the way for sustainable meetings in the Nordic countries. The entire city is devoted to questions pertaining to sustainability, the environment and the climate, and as a meeting destination we are proud of our position at the top of the ICCA Scandinavian Destinations Sustainability Index.

With regular direct flights from some 65 European destinations, the city is easily accessible from all over the world. Getting around is also easy. Gothenburg is the perfect place for walking or biking, since everything is nearby: restaurants, venues, hotels and anything a conference delegate would require. The Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre and the Gothia Towers are, in fact, the largest integrated congress and hotel facility in all of Europe. You could even board a tram to carry you all the way out to the archipelago. Or visit the Bohus Coast, one of the few remaining large-scale coastal nature areas, with its charming fishing villages, islets and skerries.

In central Gothenburg, you will discover a wealth of culture and activities within walking distance. Neighborhoods each with its own character and lush parks lie just a stone’s throw away from entertainment venues and attractions. So even those on a tight schedule can catch a glimpse of it all.

Fantastic, Michelin-starred restaurants from the Guide Rouge offer cuisines from all over the world at affordable prices. But the culinary experience de rigueur is the local seafood: scampi, lobsters and a large selection of fresh fish considered among the best in the world.

And the food trucks you will find throughout the city make fast food an affordable sensation.

Green get-togethers

Ecological sustainability is one of the most crucial questions of our age, and to which the destination Gothenburg is deeply devoted.

Landvetter Airport has attained the highest level of environmental certification, and some 65% of the city’s mass transit runs on renewable energy. In addition, practically all hotels are eco-certified, making Gothenburg the greenest hotel city in the world!

Gothenburg is ”The most sustainable meeting destination in the world”, and has topped the ICCAs Global Destination Sustainability Index in both 2016 and 2017. For you the conference organizer, this means a sustainably infrastructure, environmentally certified hotels, climate-smart logistics, and much more.

In 2015, Gothenburg was crowned Sweden’s Climate Capital. It has also received an award as the best ecotourism destination in Europe. Whenever the congress and convention association ICCA list their meeting destinations in Scandinavia, Gothenburg is at the top.

These are just a few of the things that make Gothenburg both an eco-friendly city and a destination where visitors can play their own green part. Should you choose to travel, lodge and dine with an eye to sustainability, you will find plenty of options.

Gothenburg is also a literally green city, with its nearby woodlands and parks, and a compact metropolis where most everything is within walking distance.
